And, as a postscript, I'm not sideways with you, Iceman.? I just wanted some input on how to address my problem, even though it's been discussed before, some time ago.? I value your opinions highly, of course.

Allthough I disagree on the topic. But there are lots of ppl here on the form I disagree with very often and highly respect their opinion... (as long as it's not about foglights... ).

If we combine this with Evenflow545's symptoms, they appear to be consistent with a cascading overall failure of the electrical system in the car. The AS fails just before the entire electrical system fails (that's why you get the AS fault), which causes the engine to stall out, the brakes to be applied (say from a current surge to the ABS just before electrical failure) and the steering to feel like it's locked (since the brakes have been applied, the simultaneous loss of momentum and power assist would make the steering feel like it has been locked). The steering lock is the most puzzling since it would appear that the only way to lock the steering is by removing the ignition key and turning the wheel to its lock point.

Not to rekindle the debate, Iceman, but if Guest's logic is correct, it's still a shitwreck waiting to happen. And that's my main point. Your car shouldn't do that.

And since yours did, your dealer and BMW need to find the problem before it happens again. But I think the problem is not AS itself. The steering would have felt locked without AS too in that kind of situation.
Oh, btw, a computer shouldn't crash either, but it's happening every day. j/k, I know it's not the same...

Just accept, that there are ppl that don't think like you. He has very good and valid points. You don't need to agree... (I learned that...? ).

For your own safety, Evenflow545 please take your car into your dealer so that you avoid the "shitwreck waiting to happen" because AS is not the cause of the problems you are experiencing.

[/quote]I would think posts like this are probably what led Evenflow to refer to you as an idiot and question why you would not register. Let's move on....

Ok I didnt really follow this but Even flow you said the engine stalled? When the engine is off doesnt the wheel lock come into play? Locking the steering wheel? Would that be what happened to your steering wheel causing it to lock and not Active Steering?
