I had that occur too! After the third time it ended up with a new steering column being installed. Bloody gimmick! But thank goodness for the warranty.

Really?! I still got 1 year of warranty left and another dealer visit comes at 9000Km, I'm curious if it shows up again by that time.

Got this error yesterday out of the blue. Continued driving for 10 more Km, turned off the ignition, came back in one hour and everything is OK again.

Thanks guys, I will keep an eye on it
I had this come up once for no reason.. i just started the car and the error popped up. When i began to drive away the steering wheel was almost at 180 degrees and the car going straight. I immediately stopped and shut the car off. When I started it again it was fine. Hasn't happened in 3 months.. weird.

It's happened to me, too. It just popped up while I was getting into a driveway. I turned off the engine and restarted the car and the message was still there. I started the engine a few hours later and the message was still there but no weird driving symptoms like car swerving to one direction or firmer steering wheel. I drove the car home (local road, 2 miles at 35 mph) and when I got home, I turned off the engine and restarted it after a minute and the message was gone. I called the dealership when the message popped up and they asked me to bring the car in. But since the message didn't pop up anymore when I got home, I didn't bother to bring it in anymore. Hasn't happened since then (2 mos. ago).

Hmmm, the error message (hang on it's not a PC!!) is actually stored while no longer visible through the iDrive.
The dealer will access any error messages and action each one.
I suggest that you take the car to the dealer so they can fix whatever problem the Active Steering was having.
