[SIZE=14]Rudy,you are right...I went out and drove and counted

turns on the stering wheel and there is no change w/ DSC

either on or off. Thanx.

It does not mean that AS is deactivated, just that it doesn?t interact with DSC.

I think we've pretty much established that now.

To bring the thread back on topic, does anyone else feel a numbness in the steering compared to the E39?

I just find the AS amusing and communicative. Maybe some artificial feel but that?s just very little.

I do like the artificial feel of the AS. Getting feedback from the road is great, as long as you do not get too much feedback, that's why I like it so much, you do not need to keep a good grip on the steering wheel because the feedback that you receive is just enough to feel what's going on.

You are totally right about AS. I think BMW has a very good invention in AS. It?s perfectly balanced between road feel and some artificial feel.

Active Steering is so good that it pretty much ruins/spoils you. I was driving a car yesterday that didn't have AS and I kept thinking something was wrong with it.

I kept overshooting turns, etc. for the first few minutes of the drive!

BMW ought to license this technology to other manufacturers. It would make them a fortune in royalties alone!

I believe and read somewhere that the Active Steering technology was developed by ZF with BMW. As a result BMW have exclusive rights to use the system for 3/4 years. After that the techology can be used by other manufacturers.

Congrats to ZF and BMW then. They solved the age old problem of how to calibrate the steering to maximize the overall driving experience.

Here's to Active Steering being as common as ABS brakes sometime in the future!

(might as well add adaptive headlights while we're at it!!)

When anyone asks me about Active Steering I tell them "My 530 drives like a go-cart". Most understand the analogy.
