Default Active Steering 3 Alarms Problem

Dear all,

I have A late 2005 E60 550i that runs perfectly but all of a sudden is showing me the 3 below errors and the steering wheel electrically tilted 30 degrees to the left after ignition... this happened twice and now stopped....

After I drive for 3 seconds the below 3 alarms appear:
Active steering faulty!
Drive control system!
Start assistant inactive!

I sent it to the dealer in Geneva Switzerland and the guys don't seem to figure out what it is.

So I did the Optical disk cleaning operation as suggested by many, and the 3 faults still remain...
So it's not the optical disk part 6131 111 997
I also got the Diagnostic from BMW, and it came out with all the below faults starting with the most recent (all seemingly related to my above problem)
Sorry they are in French so can't really translate...

00C98B
006147
00D17C
006278
00D368

So their diagnosis is that I need to change bmw part 32106777492 the full Steering Gear
for vehicles with active steering, for left-hand drive vehicles, Hydraulic
More than 5000 EUR fix!!!!!
Does anyone have a list of all defects so I can confirm BMW diagnosis?
Any opinions on what it might be?

I took it to another Garage and same diagnostic came out, something about CAN communication fault, which could be that the wiring from the Active steering unit is faulty.
So we went under the car and indeed, just under the alternator, there is a thick "data whiter" that shows some wear but does not seem cut or open, I will try and post some "bad" pictures I could take. The cable looks to be the lowest one on the left part of 32106777492 the full Steering Gear, but more the n3 coming out of the electric motor for active steering.

Anyone had a similar 3sum problem?

Thanks

Thanks Rvn10,
however i'm not sure by what you mean by Check the unit? Physically check it ?
Both Diagnostic tools did not give any faults in this unit....

Dear All, I'm delighted to share the good news! My problem is fixed thanks partly to the videos attached (
and
. I ordered a new cable for my active steering (103 EUR) and asked my garage to install it (for 130 EUR work time on the bench) and miracle... it all back to normal. I kept the old cable and indeed it had wear and tear on the upper part of one of the upper connectors, very similar to what Adam shows in the Video.

So I want to thank Adam for his posting, and wish you all to have the same success.
Also remember not to always trust BMW diagnosis and "hungry for money" attitude, as if I had listened to them it could have cost me over 5000 EUR and still not have worked as they might not even have thought of changing the cable.
All the best.
