My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
My opinion of AS is generally positive, but I'm still not totally comfortable with AS when I'm really pushing it.
On fast long sweepers, AS feels just like regular steering.
But on tighter corners, its different. During trail braking before the apex I find myself readjusting the steering angle sometimes. I guess I just haven't gotten used to what the angle should be for every given speed, so sometimes going into the turn-in point I've got the wrong angle and have to correct it.
I think I'll get used to it eventually and I'm not really complaining about this behavior. In fact, I think its good practice because its making me more alert in case I need to readjust my steering. Its almost simulating a twitchy car. I'll need this practive once I move into higher performing cars.
Right now I view AS as a welcome challenge in improving my car control skills. Your opinion may vary.

I've said it a million times before -- they need to have something in iDrive that allows us to adjust the agressiveness (or calibration) of AS so that if you feel that it's not good for the track, you can dial up a setting that is the same ratio as a car without AS. If you want it on, you should be able to choose the setting that suits you for what you're going to be doing. I personally love AS and was able to negotiate a slalom course on a track without ever crossing my hands but I can see how sometimes it might be a problem given a certain track configuration.
Why not allow us to either adjust it or manually enable/disable it?

I am looking at trading an E46 330i for a 530i. I really like to attend DE events and lapping days at the tracks. The motoring press says active steering changes ratios too quickly during hard braking into a turn, adding difficulty in turn in. Does anyone have a real world experience with high performance driving an active steering? Thanks,
Drove with AS on my Sept 03 E60 for 18mths and found it vague at high speed. Much prefer my coventional set up as during high speed cornering it feels really sharp and precise. Theres not a fat lot of difference at slow speed. This is only my opinion and as I understand from previous threads my original version of AS was superceded with various software updates.
