My Ride: 2005 Black Sapphire Metallic 545i
I just got my car yesterday, and after driving everywhere I possible could, I have gotten to love the active steering. I've read all the negative articles, whether it's autoweek, or car and driver, and all they do is bash the active steering, and the idrive. I love how turning at slower speeds it's a lot shorter wheel turn, I haven't gotten to try it out going fast but just from turning back and forth at higher speeds it doesn't seem as drastically different than conventional steering even though the magazines made it out to be a huge difference.
Same thing with Idrive, after 5 minutes figuring out how to navigate through I got to love Idrive, it cleans up the dash, and it's extremely easy to use.
Any comments to the active steering, or something I should know let me know.

Nope Active Steering isnt as bad as everyone makes it sound... other than when it breaks. 
At speed its not really noticable... up to 80 90 mph it feels just as good as normal to me. at higher speeds I dont know never tried.
So for the gains at lower speed its worth it I suppose... the Gains at lower speed more every day use vs once in a blue moon high speed runs I guess AS gets a

Alright, thanx, I did notice this when I was waiting for my car and was reading a lot of the past posts on the forum, that with the new software versions it got better, I like it where it is now, but I'll definately read that thread.

This first post of mine could get some people angry if they have had problems with it when it first came out, after reading those old threads, it's obvious BMW made some changes I'm just glad I don't have the issues some of those people talked about.

ON ORDER
After having a loaner without Active Steering for 4 days and then getting back into my car with Active Steering I wouldn't buy another BMW without Active Steering. My 2 cents And the same goes for the IDRIVE.

Having driven with AS for 18 months then going to a non AS e60 I don't think there's a great deal of difference. I found the non AS sharper at speed.
In the UK AS is an expensive option that can only be purchased on its own (not part of sport package like in US). If you can afford all the options then fine but if you have a budget I would go for a music upgrade or extended lights etc. instead

05E60Black545i, I have the same exact car as you minus the spoiler. I too love the AS and Idrive. It's more fun taking turns at lower speeds.
