is the ARS system worth it alone to order the sport package? What happens if you add aftermarket lowering springs? Will the ARS still work?

It is worth it alone in my book. It should still work with aftermarket springs although ..... well I won't pass judgement here. There is probably little that you could do within reason to improve the sport package handling with the exception of tires/rims.

The advantage of ARS is a smooth ride and near zero body roll. Aftermarket springs would change the ride but affect body roll very little.

Several reviewers have stated that they thought the ride quality with ARS is actually better than without it. The reason is that the suspension can actually be a bit softer with ARS than without, so on the straights you get a softer ride, but in the twisties you get flat cornering. There is a lot elsewhere on this board about ARS, so do a search. I would not consider buying a 5 without it.

ARS is fantastic--very minimal body roll in the twisties, without a harsh ride on straightways. Not sure it alone is worth the price of the sport package, but the sport package is a great value with great features--highly recommended. Since ARS is basically an active stabilizer bar system, I don't see why it wouldn't work with lowering springs, but not sure. My 545i with sport package is plenty low for me. Here's more info:

ARS is what makes the E60 the best sports sedan choice over ANY other car out there in my opinion. It makes every turn feel like the road was banked no matter how flat it really is. You will be amazed at what kind of turns you can make without even slowing down. You'll have a blast.

Without sport package the E60 is just another pretty face, ARS is amazing once you experience the handling of this car, you won't be able own anything else.
Good luck

Ok guys, If Dynamic Drive is that good on twisties, then why is it not available on the M5?

'cos dynamic drive tightens up on hard cornering and gives you a soft setting for gentle corners/straights. The M5 is permanently hard core.

The M5 has it's own specific suspension system
