I have the comfort seats installed in my car. Now I bought a tablet DVD ( NEXTBASE, 7" screen and DVD player integrated ) for my son. He just loves it and the long trips are pure pleasure. So far so good.

But today I read in the users manual that you should not hang or mount anything on the headrests ( not even a seat cover ), because it can interfear with the Whiplash protection function of the active headrests.

Is this just some liability thing or could my DVD actually prevent the system from operating properly?

Anyone actually knows how these headrests work, technically? They are supposed to move forward and catch your head from being thrown backwards, in case you are hit from behind, right?

The DVD is fitted to the two vertical headrest tubes with a clamp.

I?m very concerned about this. Don?t want to drive around and not having this protection. This is a big reason why I bought the comfort seats.

OK, I could move the DVD to another place but the best viewing angle is ofcourse right in front of my son on the back of the seat.

Any ideas?

I read someplace that it?s a pyrotechnical device. It also includes some kind of gas bottle that you have to change if the system was activated.

But I don?t understand why I can?t put anything on the back of the seat?

Found more info.

It seems like the headrest moves horisontally forward to catch the head moving backwards.

So if you put equipment ( =weight ) on the headrest it would slow down the forward motion, thus preventing it from catching the head quick enough to prevent a whiplash?
