I now have 2000 miles on my 550I LCI and have tried a few acceleration runs.So far I am a little disappointed.Below I loggeg the runs and compared them to my last 2 runs with my 545I.
0-60--------------1/8 mile---------------------0-60-----------------1/8 mile
---------550I---------------------------------------------545I
4.85................8.70/83.1mph.....................4.83.................. ..8.67/82.8
4.97................8.72/81.8...........................4.98............... .....8.70/82.3
4.98................8.75/81.8
The times are decent, but no better than my 545.Maybe with more miles on my 550 the times will be better.I had 30000 miles on my 545 when I did the latest runs.I never was a believer in some cars being measurably faster than others with the same engine and equipment, but maybe my 545 was faster than most other 545's.I will try more runs after I put more miles on my 550.The weather conditions on the above runs were very similar, clear and between 48 & 52 degrees.

Great test, as usual!

Miles are important on these engines: I felt the car clearly different between 3.000 and 30-40.000 km.

Plus the 550i is a little heavier than the 545i .

Good luck on your next test!

Wow. Ya I think you do have a faster 545 than most... and I think the 550 should loosen up a little after more milage... Keep us posted!

The difference between the 545i/550i can be seen up top. The 550i will pull away as you approach triple speeds. As for grogan545, he's all stock.

I noticed your runs on 545i (4.83 sec) and 550i (4.85 sec) are under 5 secs on 0-60.... all stock?

In the car reviews websites and the BMW website mention that both are about above of 5 secs and under of 5.8 secs (550i : 5.2 sec and 545i: 5.6 sec)...
Personally I never tested a run with my car but it seems interesting to know the data.

Completley stock.I even had the original goodyear RSA tires. The BMW published times are for 0-100 km(0 to 62mph).This makes about a .3 sec diff. Also I am sure BMW doesn't use any rollout.I am presently using 9" for a rollout. This figure makes my GT2 timer read perfectly with the NHRA grag strip timer in my area.

Hi Grogan545,

Do you know what was the humidity/pressure level? Air density (if there is a larger delta) can make the difference in your time. (more humidity equals less density in the air). More dense air means more fuel atoms to the engine unless the ECU readjust the mixture.

BMW's own specs always seem slower than the magazines. Maybe they dont want too much expectation.

For instance, car mags talk about the new M3 at between 4.1 and 4.3 on a 0-60 run, depending on who you believe. Yet, BMW's own numbers on its website put the car at 4.7.

I have always wondered why they do this...

Ya and why do they say the 335 only has 300 hp when others have dynoed it to be around 340 stock.

mercedes AMG does the same thing too... always list the AMGs at 4.7 yet they're all faster than that. 4.7 seems to be a good publishing number.
