they ended up changing out the whole climate control section on my car and it works likes it's supposed to......no phantom starts......good luck....

My AC knob has been acting up recently also, turned it all the way down and off but it still turned on intermittently. Tried restarting the engine and it went away but it does come back, once in awhile. I just don't want to get rip off by the dealer for this problem.

have you checked your auto climate setting via iDrive?

Yeeeeeeeeeep. This is pretty much normal. Not only does it turn on while driving but at startup too. The dial is so sensitive that if you hit a bump it might touch off a little and turn on. I've learned to live with it.
