Question AC groan

Hi,

I recently got the condenser replaced (due to minor crash) on my 07 E60. After that the AC makes a groaning noise which changes slightly with RPM but is maddening at slow speeds in bumper to bumper traffic. Any ideas what might be causing this? The noise goes away as soon as I switch off the AC (not the fan).

I have had this noise on and off for a long time, but only when outside temps are below 70 deg. F. It stops when AC is switched off.

Same noise in the traffic crawl. I've just been turning it off. AC is working fine otherwise.

My '04 545i makes the same or similar noise. I think we are all due for a compressor rebuild or replacement. Or, just live with it as I don't think the noise indicates impending compressor failure.
