Default AC blowing weak

Fan wouldn't start until 5-15 minutes after driving and cooling would also take extra time, only gets really cold when sun is down.

Replaced the compressor and dyer, now fans still don't start immediately but at least does when the car starts moving. AC does get cold immediately so seems like one issue is solved.

Main concern now is the fan is blowing weak. Second day in, I was surprised with fans blowing at max speed for the first time. Third day, fans not able to blow at any speed above the fourth level like before.

I think this last detail may be the key to identifying the issue but I don't know what it is. So I accidentally hit the button for the front windshield vents and fan immediately started blowing at max speed. I could feel it through the main vents before the computer shut the vents, directing the air flow only to the windshield vent. I went to the iDrive settings and redirected air back to the main vents but fan immediately powered down...so seems like blower motor is working fine.

Not sure what the issue is here...also noted pressing the MAX button and AUTO button don't help. Please let me know if you guys have any idea. Thank you!

This used to happen to me intermittently.
Same situation, Fan would not go pass 1/4 way speed, even if it is at max speed, or auto. Also tried adjusting in iDrive but didn't fix the problem.
At the same time, I was already aware of my battery going bad.

After I installed a new one, Fixed the problem.

Maybe try swapping in a new one.

Hey Jeremy thanks for the reply! Perhaps the battery is the issue. I've read on other forums that when battery is low, computer preserves the system by reserving the high fan speed function to defrost mode for safety reasons. I also only make short trips with the car so perhaps not enough charging from alternator. Will look into getting a charger.

Grab a battery tender and charge you battery up. Sounds weird but it works!

When your battery is low your a/c fan is limited. Once your charge the battery it will operate as it should. If your battery is bad replace it. This happens to me all the time because my car sits for a while.
