Here Shell V Power 100 Octane is expensive (?1.45/lt) ... I have used it for six month on both cars (MCS and 545i), but now I prefer the 98 for ?1.25/lt .

It's important to note that in the US we use (RON+MON/2) for octane rating. In most of europe they use RON. The rating numbers are not 1 to 1. 98 RON is about the same as 92-93 in the US.

But .. When I am on mountain I often go to a country 30 km far (the road is very funny because that country is at 1800 mt of altitude), near to switxerland border, where the gas costs ?0.85/lt for taxes advantages (for ex. there isn't VAT) and it is a big pleasure fill in : 40 liters, ?35 .

I believe they measure the octane differently outside the US.
In the US it is RON+MON/2. Outside the US it's either RON or MON. So an octane of 100 outside the US is not the same as 100 in then US

My favorite: Shell V Power 100 ...noticeable difference in power and mileage.
0.90 - 1.10 Eur. / lit. in Athens, depends on the gas station.
There is unleaded fuel with 92 and 95 octane also.

ImolaRedM and noonehome are right. US gas often gets a bad press because people focus on the number and misunderstand the scale that is used. The US uses a different measurement and you need to add 4 or 5 to the US rating to get an apples to apples comparison with other (i.e most) countries or regions that use RON as the basis for measurement. 91 to 92 gas here might be sold as 95 to 97 elsewhere.
