do you have any experience with purchasing extended warranty? Which one would you recommend?

Thanks!
I've had my car for a little over three years now so I am just starting to look into the extended warranties. My SA walked me thru the BMW warranty and the third-party one they offer. I don't think the third-party warranty is a BMWNA-wide offering but surely most/all dealers will offer one. Read the fine print, because the BMW warranty does not cover iDrive and most electronic systems. And there are a lot on this car. The third-party warranty actually had three "levels" of coverage you could buy, with the top-end coverage handling the electronics as well. BMW warranty also adds two years, 40,000 miles bringing total to 5 yr, 100,000 miles coverage. The third-party was for an additional three years, 40,000 miles. The point is if you are going thru a lot of miles the BMW warranty may be best, but if you are like me, with only 29,000 miles on the car in more than three years, the three year extension may be the better option since miles are not really the issue.

Just dug out the flyers he gave me. The BMW warranty for a 525 is listed as "suggested MSRP" of $2,875. My 545 is $3,375. These include a $50 deductible PER visit (not per defect). The BMW Extended Maint. package is another $1,195 MSRP. These are usually somewhat negotiable however.

The flyer he gave me for the third-party does not quote prices but he said there is not much difference with the BMW warranty. Again, likely negotiable.

Hello Serge007!!! I haven't read a post from you in a while, good to hear from you again.
I also had the owner's choice program in TX (Not offered in every state) and I decided to keep the car, I ended up the program early (by a couple of months) by sending a check to BMW financial services with the payoff amount and saved a little on interest (From the last two payments).
So far I haven't had issues with the engine like stalling/dying or vibration, very rarely I have rough starts (For about 2-3 seconds) when cold starting. So far I'm still happy with the car.
I'm still 13K miles from running out on warranty/maintenance but I checked my options too, the best BMWNA extended warranty quote I got was for 2,675USD and BMW extended maintenance was 1,225USD, this is all offered by BMWNA and as mentioned here, it has the deductible per visit and it does not covers the radio/iDrive.
I also checked warrantydirect.com, they have different options but before I go with them, I would like to hear some experiences from other users when it comes down to paying for the warranty services (That is, when warrantydirect needs to pay for any services done to the car) They claim that you can still use the dealership to handle any claim so that was an incentive and they do cover the electronics depending on the plan you choose.

I'm 6K out till my warranty expires, so I'm about to start looking for extended warranty. Do you have to got through your local BMW or it's better to call BMW of NA?

Thanks!

The BMW warranty is offered by BMWNA but the individual dealers offer it and sign you. At least that's the impression I got at my dealer. There was no talk of calling BMWNA to sign up.

You get it at the dealership with the financial rep.
Here's a previous thread I started about it:

called BMW of Austin last night to talk about extended warranty, well warranty guy said that currently they are running promotion where you get $600 discount. Promotion expires this Friday. But even with this discount BMW of Austin wants more for 2OP than advertised price from BMW in South Atlanta (found in your post you mentioned). I showed it to BMW warranty specialist, he said they cannot do that, e.i. it's illegal, however they'll match that price ??? if I make my decision by this Friday

So, not sure what to do...I still have 4,5K left.
