Default 6th popping out while coasting

Hi All,

Have an 08 550i M sport manual and it pops out of gear in 6th while coasting.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Clutch out (in gear)

It's fine coasting for a few seconds. It is worse going down a hill.

No bad sounds or vibrations when it kicks to neutral.

This isn't specific for the BMW itself.. but I used to have that problem on a mitsubishi, it was the final gear that was loose on the transmission. Thankfully for the mitsubishi it was easy enough to crack open the gear box and retighten the last gear. I don't know how bad it might be on the BMW or if this is the problem.

One other symptom was to watch the actual gear shifter, if you hit the gas on and off you'd see the shifter move back and forth. (when it should not) and only in that gear.

It's worth a shot for a starting point..
