Hi

I would like to get your opinion on how to drive a manual E60.

Is this true that:

While clutch is pressed dont press the gas pedal, except the 1st gear?

When you dont press gas with clutch, you get a little jerk when changing gears 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. Do i do it right?

Thanks

From the sounds of your initial post in this thread, it seems as if you didn't have too much experience driving a manual. Any differences between a normal manual and BMW manual aren't going to make much difference to a novice. As a matter of fact, the BMW might be easier for a novice to drive smoothly due to the presence of a clutch delay valve.

Help me out, are you an experienced manual driver or a beginner?

Why buy a clutch if you don't know how to drive one ? That's what I say, but you'll get the hang of it, hopfully before you have to replace the clutch.

After the second one you'll be a pro.

Rudy..

I already have a E90 6MT and put about 40K miles on it without busting the clutch. So I can say I know how to drive a manual.

SMG353..

I already own the car! But.. the clutch died in within 2K miles of ownership. I can assure you that clutch on 5 is different in feel than clutch on 3.

So when I went to the dealership the guy there tried to tell me that BMW clutches are waaayyy different than any other car. Hence my post!

Thanks

Yes I agree, the clutch form a 3 to a 5 is different, but the concept is the same. A clutch is a clutch. How you drive it
makes you a better driver.

Just take it slow, remeber not to let off the clutch while the gas is pushed down.. to avoid tire spin keep the rpm between 1500, and 2500 and slowly take your foot off the clutch and you press the gas. To be on the safe side, to switch gears, take your foot off the gas, press the clutch, switch gears, let off the clutch, and press the gas.

As time goes on, you'll get better and faster.

The only other major thing I'll add is to not use the clutch/gas to hold the car motionless on a hill at a stop light, etc.
