i don't understand why you guys have all been quoted in excess of $3,000.? i purchased my vehicle in nov. 2004 and the first offer from the finance officer was $1,700.... i was able to talk her down to $1,500 so naturally i took it....

For all the scheduled mantinence and repairs...in my opinion its well worht it.

Hey Guest, Which city and what dealer did you use? Since your response conflicts with other peoples responses and you haven't registered, I want to make sure you aren't bs-ing us.

I bought an extended warranty for around $1,300 (for a 2001 540) and yesterday it saved me over $400 on a control module for one of my head-lights. I think it will be worth it and the piece of mind is worth it as these cars age. I am sure more repairs are coming. If you plan to drive over 50,000 miles it is worth it. $3000 + on a 5 series may be high, but probably not for a new 6.

Dude you're talkin about the BMW maintenance upgrade to 6yr/100k not the BMW 2OP warranty program. They are 2 separate and distinct things

sorry guys i forgot to log in the other day.... (by the way, i'm the guest who wrote about the 6th yr warranty at $1,500)

anyway, this is true and guest with the "thumbs up," i know what i'm talking about and in fact just for fun, i'm reading over the agreement:

at the top in reads BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade Agreement
coverage for 72 months or 100,000 whichever comes first

bought car at assael bmw in monrovia, ca (nov. 2004)

this warranty is negtioable....perhaps they've just recently increased the price??

It's my understanding that the Maintenance Program Upgrade covers ONLY normal scheduled maintenance (oil & filter changes, etc,) and NOT repairs.

That's right, they are two separate agreements. I paid $2295 for my extended repair warranty (7yrs/100,000), and $1,195 for my service warranty (6yrs/100,000). Negotiated it in 8/04 for my 10/04 ED Delivery.

Now that is a fully enough detailed response to both qualify and quantify what to expect. A high end 5er with most of the high end options. I assume some variations by equipment, regions, etc. but a very good baseline. Thanks for breaking that out as you did.

I just spoke to my dealer for clearaficaton on the extended coverage. He made it very clear that there are two seperate programs, both offered by BMW, that can both be purchased at ANYTIME WITHIN the original warranty or maintance agreement. Therefore even at say 48,000 miles, or less than four years from issue, you can sign up for either, and furthur, the price remains the same regardless of time or milage as long as it is within the original window.. He advised each has to be purchased seperatly and are distinctly different. The maintanance only covers just that, including brakes wiper blades etc., but not repairs, minor or major. On the other hand the warranty covers repairs only ( which can be damn expensive he said especially for Navigation and the tranny etc.) . I have the 545ia so he said it is a no brainer and a MUST to get the ext. warranty with the kind of miles I put on and the long period of time I keep the cars that I BUY, and the new technology on the 545. I am therefore sorry to report that those of you that state you purchased an extended maintanance agreement, you WILL NOT be covered on repairs for the extended period. They are again TWO SEPERATE PROGRAMS.
