My Ride: On Order, due in May - 2007MY 530D SE, Silver Grey, Black Dakota, Auto, Brushed aluminium shadowline, sports seats / wheel, hi fi speakers, mats, space saver wheel and a few more bits
I have loved, washed, polished and protected my first ever BMW, however came to drive home from work yesterday and some basta*d had let 2 tyres down (not a problem with RFT) and keyed a deep 12 inch scratch in the drivers side door panel will not post a pic as I am too upset
I am parking in a poor area but have no choice at the moment due to a new car park being built, most others have company crap cars. My insurance excess is 400 pounds, quote for repair, 399
NEVER HAPPEND TO MY A4
Will get the repair done and try to claim on company expenses - car parking location was forced on me
Should I stick to BMW approved body shop or go for a cheap mobile repair service?

Hi 07530d,
I'm gutted for you my friend. It beggars belief the mentality of some people - we work our nuts off to get these cars. I would defintely go with the BMW dealer for the repairs.

Sorry to hear that. Envy is not a nice beast.
I doubt any "cheap" mobile repair service would be
a) cheap
b) able to fix a deep gouge in the paint using mobile only equipment
I have recently (Thursday) had a trolley ding repaired - the paint was just nicked, for a length of no more than 10-15 mm. Chipsaway did a brilliant job, but it was ?200 + VAT, and the car had to go in for them to repaint. They only do non-touch up jobs with mobile equipment.
However, it's still half the price... If you want a pic of the repair, let me know and I'll post one.

My Ride: My 1st was an '06 530xi, Titanium Silver w/ gray dakota leather, sport pkg. & Nav.
Now my 2nd is an '08 650i CP, Space Gray, Blk Dakota, Sprt. Auto, HUD, Sprt. Pkg., Prem. Sound, High Beam Ast. & Comfort Access
I would only consider a full service body shop. For damage like that to be repaired properly the entire door should be repainted. Good luck.

The dealer will most likely farm it out to a local body shop and tack on a few bucks for themselves. Ask around, great body shops always have great reps.
