My manual for my 2009 535 shows what looks like 12 programmable memory buttons (where each of the 6 buttons have 2 settings saved). I can only seem to save 1 setting per button. Am I missing something very obvious? Thanks!

Where in the manual does it indicate or imply 12 programmable buttons? (.pdf versions of the various E60 owners manuals are located here: https://5series.net/information/ ) Can you point to a specific page from one of them?

As far as I know, since the LCI, the US/NA market has always had 6 buttons and pretty much everyone else in the world gets a total of 8 buttons...

Good to know! I was looking at the 2009 owner's manual, page 23 (or 25 of the PDF). It shows a picture of the iDrive screen when your finger hovers over the buttons... It looked to me like the "note" and "destination arrow" were both on the same button, and to the right, it looked like the "dash" and "phone" functions were on the next button.

But, it sounds like these are in fact separate buttons. Thanks for the clarification!

Gotcha. For sure there are only 6 buttons on NA cars. The good news is that BMW finally listened to us and decided that we're worthy enough for 8 buttons now and they've given us just that on the F10!
