I just wanted to comment quickly that the whole issue of the 5er sucking in crosswinds is not just a 5er issue but driving a 3 series today I even felt more like I was getting blown over the freeway in all sorts of direction so considering the 7 series is a similar shape to the 5-I am guessing the only hope for bmw and the wind is the 6 series? Unless maybe the 7 is heavy enough to help with that. But its not just a 5er problem is my point. Whether that makes anyone feel better or not-probably not but thought id let ya know

How is it that I've had 3 BMW's and have never experienced this problem?

My three tramlines all over the place on rutted pavement, which is to be expected, but is dead stable in the wind.
My X3 did get a little boaty over 100 mph in a stiff crosswind on the A7 on my ED.

Below 100 it was rock solid.

I have to admit i have noticed a slight disturbance in stability whilst driving in high crosswinds, it's not huge but when it happens it can catch you unawares, I have to say however this occured during high windss coupled with articulated trucks, the 5er seems to have a little issue with wind washing off the back of these monsters of the road.

I can confirm that having done the 250 mile trip twice a week in both 7 & 5 that the 7er had no such turbulance issues, I'm certainly not shouting from the rooftops about the 5er being unstable.

My wifes 530XI is all over the place in the wind. Thought an alignment problem, but everything is at factory specs. My 550I is solid as a rock in any conditions. I don't know if ride height can make that much difference.

My car is solid as a rock too - and I drive the majority of my time on highways that experience crosswinds regularly.

wow this is quite a change-shoulda posted all the links to the problems endorsed by e60 useres over this issue last time it was brought up-it was about 3 pages of people concurring and posting other links that the 5er sucks in the wind

The thing is unless you are going 80 plus you wont notice it-that is the thing-it is more in the speeds 80-100 or faster I am sure-but at speeds its normally rock solid in-if you add wind say at a 100 itis a mess with the e60-but also with this non-sport 328 as well

Just an outside observation. The car is built very light for a car of its size. The engine block was substantially lightened.

As a result, we all get great gas mileage for a huge car. A lighter and larger car is not going to do as well in the wind (the kite principle).

This is an acceptable consequence for me.

Just an outside observation.
