Thx for comments, they were most interesting.

I checked out alot of the advice here, and I found out this morn that with the mute button on, the song info [title and artist], and radio station will still display on the lower-left hand of screen, and change with the playing of the songs.

Muting will pause the CD, but the radio information continues to display.

But thx for the comments. :)

I just can't believe THIS is a gripe!!! Seriously?!?!?! There are so many other things to worry about than whether the "mute" button really does turn the radio off, isn't there?

BTW, +10000000 for a "mute" button for the wife, I try pushing the one on my remote during football and it never seems to work :(

Really, I love my wife, but when the Steelers are driving late in the fourth quarter it's not the time to tell me how your sister's new boyfriend seems to like to fart during sex. Honestly, I don't care and TMI!!!!

$55K & no off button?? :(

I?ve written on this issue before, but it is disappointing that I spend $55K for a ?05 530i & there is no off button for the radio/CD!!

The response I got from this before was that ?mute is the new off?.

However, I?ve noticed, then when I do mute the button, especially after the last idrive software flash, the radio information is still displaying as the songs are played, i.e. radio station, artist name & song. And with the CD, the play information also displays at the bottom.

And I?ve noticed in other cars that have an ?off? button, when you turn off the radio, and exit the car, the next time you enter the car, the radio remains off until you turn it on again.

However, in this case, I hit the mute button, and when I get in the car the next time, the radio or CD is on when I start the car.

Has this changed with the new model 530's?

As I was eyeing a new ?10 535xi, I?d like to know this has changed, and now I?m even leerier about making the plunge to a new 5 series, as I?m reading on this board the E60 is going to be replaced??!!

I have 46K miles on mine, and I can drive it for a few more years, it?s still a fun car to drive, and I don?t really have to jump into a new year model just for the features of the ipod interface, folding mirrors and possibly an off switch for the radio.

Any thoughts on this, thx.

Id wait for the F10 LCI, that would be the 2015 offered in 2014. Its not that far away and you get most of the bugs worked out and you get the new tail lights, but Bruce will probably have a cable developed that convert the F10 pre LCI to LCI's

Really? He farts during sex?

Not gonna get any lower end work if he keeps that up.

That's what I was being told as the Steelers were trying to give the game back to the Chargers - guess what I cared about more? I agree, he won't be getting too much "quality time" if he keeps that up
