OK. BMW is putting out a lot of new models. M3 copue, M3 sedan, 1 series (several versions), updated 6, X6, "V" series (or whatever they are calling it).

I have not seen ANY news about the V8 twin turbo that was on several sites a few months ago when BMW registered the 555 number. Was it all rumor?

Can anyone offer concrete information on if this REALLY exists and if so when BMW plans on implementing this motor and in which vehicles?

Thanks!

Imho there will be an F10 555, not an E60 : a V8 turbocharged would be faster and faster than the 2008 E60 M5 .

Member tachyon just posted about a 420hp injected V8 that has been developed for the 5 and an offshoot people hauler.I think it makes more sense than a TT. IMHO

Cheers

My guess is a turbo V8 will be introduced in F01 new 7 Series launching September 08 and then in the F10 the following year.

So F10 line won't have naturally aspirated engines?

why do people think the 555 won't come for 2009? It would make more sense in my opinion that they don't wait 2 more years to put it in the 5-series.

1. History - The E39 continued with the 540 engine for two years after the 745 was introduced (the 545 didn't come along until the E60).

2. E60 M5 - An E60 555 will be too close to the performance of the E60 M5.

1. Excellent point. BMW is nothing if not predictable based on history.

2. This is only true if the last model year of the M5 doesn't get a TT V10. There is a little history of BMW doing things in the final model year to try to "clean out the barn" and boost sales before the next model is rolled out.

Why? It would be a 100hp down from the M5?
