Just wanted to say that as nice as the new 335 TT engine is, it cannot and will never compare to the v-8. My buddy just completed his shortened break in period (800 miles) on his 335xi manual, and wanted to see how it compared to my 550 auto...so we decided to go head to head.

First run was me driving his car, and clearly he in mine. From a dead stop, the 550 won out easily in 0-60, as well as a qtr mile. We switched up on the second run, and from a rolling start, the 335 jumped ahead for a split second (nothing my new sprint booster wont solve), but then the 550 easily pulled ahead.

With all due respect to the 6 cylinder TT, the V8 sounds better and is clearly faster (IMO).

Also, I ripped out the carbon filter before the "race" but didn't really notice anything (speed or sound). Seemed like I broke the clips which will need a little hot glue before I bring in for service...hehehe...

In summary, my friend is now convinced that he needs the Dinan upgrade...

Lastly - we were not racing aggresively, and were no where near other people, so please no comments on safety, as that came first for both of us...

Apples and Oranges ... But your back seat passengers will like you better in the e60 regardless of engine and drivetrain !

I miss the V-8 torque in my '01 e38 740i) and its relaxed highway cruising manners. But the e60 (530xi) is a more nimble and fun daily driver. I will admit it's a tad rough on some of our roads - it has the sport package and 18" RFTs. And my overall gasoline mileage is no better that what I was getting from my 740.

would be better though if you ran against a non-xi model, but nice runs. thanks for sharing.

I heard that the xi would be quicker off the line due to lack of anti slip???

Find an auto 335i to race.

I am sure neither of you could match the auto's shifts with the manual.

It takes a talented driver to be more efficient with the manual.

That is correct - the xDrive car will be faster off the line.
