Hi Guys,
First post. This is a fun thread. My 06 530i sport lease is up in 6 months and now I'm salivating for the new 535 Sport. I seriously hope there will be good lease rates again in Dec. If not, the 535 may be a hair out of reach when my lease runs out. I just love the way the 530 drives but the 535 sounds like a whole other level. Damn, I can't wait !

I haven't seen a post from anyone who's changed over yet. I'm sure someone will, and hopefully they'll post their observations. I suspect that the difference would be the same as observed on the '06/'07 550 (or 530 for that matter) as the suspensions are likely identical. I'm not sure what that real difference is though, having never driven an e60 without runflats.

Lou
Can you point me to the thread? I'd like to read up on owners observations regarding changing their RF's to non RF's, particularly the effect on ride quality/noise, etc.

Thanks,

grover

Is there any real world data comparing 535i performance to 550i performance yet? I figured out that my S4's factory warranty will be up in 9K miles or about six months, whichever comes first, and I'm thinking if I want to order a car to my own specs, it wouldn't be a bad thing to do it by year's end.

Thanks,
Scott

So much for the 535i vs 550i comparo. The 135i is coming soon (here in the US)!
JCW, your days are numbered .
Just kidding, I don't know which car to match it to .

I guess I am an odd one on here. I have been debating between the M5 and the 535. Even with all the banter on here, I am going for the 535. The reason being, within a year or two there will be turbo upgrades for the 535 which will pull it's power way beyond the M5's capability for way less $$$. Shoot, it costs $6-7K to get an extra 35 hp from an M5, may not even be possible with the 550, but with a 535, it is too easy. You may get a better suspension, but that is upgradable on the 535 too. The only ? in my eyes is to see how far the 535's sport tranny will hold up. Tranny's can always be beefed up, maybe not by BMW, but there are shops all around that are capable of the work. I have built and played with forced induction for a long, long time and am very comfortable of the BMW's forged internals holding some sweet boost. Just need a tuner to get into that damn computer and learn to tune it out.

You're going to struggle to add over 207bhp to the 535. Even if you could, if the M5 is your target, you'd be much better advised to bite the bullet and get the real thing

A short while back, I was a huge proponent of buy-value-save-10k-535i vs 550i. The performance numbers looked so close and convincing on paper that I considered anyone spending the extra dollars on the 550i to be a 'status seeker' and overall a poorly-informed BMW buyer. Then I test drove both cars back-to-back. My opinion had changed dramatically after the test drive: I still consider the 535i Sport to be a very capable car - a very nice mid-size sport sedan with a solid engine and suspension. But the 550i Sport is in a league all its own - it's a GREAT grand-tourer with a monster engine and incredible suspension. For those that have driven both, there's hardly a comparison.

+1. Precisely what I concluded when I switched my order for a 535 to a 550.
