Default 550i Valve and Timing Cover gasket replacement costs

Hi, All. I have been getting an intermittent burning plastic smell from the engine compartment of my 06 550i w/ 89K. I know this is indicative of a valve cover oil leak. I may be at fault here as I added Liqui-moly Motor Oil Saver about a 1000 miles back to protect valve seals. I dropped off my car at my indy this morning so he can track down the source of the leak.

I wanted to ask what is a reasonable price for replacing valve cover and upper timing cover gasket on a N62 from an indy mechanic?

I've seen prices in 1100-1300 dollar range.

Thank you.

My indy quoted my $1400 for valve cover gaskets, upper timing cover gaskets and alternator bracket seal with OE parts. Does that sound too good to be true?

Guys, could you suggest other seals/gaskets that can be replaced while they are working on the engine? Gaskets are dirt cheap so I would rather not have to pay to tear down the engine again. I already tagged on vanos seals, eccentric shaft sensor seal and water pump replacement on their to do list.

I had a chance to speak with him about the leaks and turns out the leak is coming from somewhere near starter motor solenoid, so its sound like they are will be digging deeper into the engine.

I've heard the entire valve cover should be replaced if you don't want them leaking again in short order. You can price out the covers and see the cost online. If they intend to replace covers, that should give you an idea of what they are charging for labor.

The starter solenoid is probably oil dripping down from the valve cover .
