Good Morning everyone! So for the last three months I have been getting a harsh upshift usually at 18-20mph followed by engine jumping about 500-750rpm and then coming back down. This only happens when the car is cold (sitting more than 3-4 hours). I took it in about two months ago to the dealership and the tech apparently found nothing wrong and there was apparently no new software updates. Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Thanks in advance! Tony

It seems that you have a common E60 problem. I have 04 530i, and i have the same problems, although recently i noticed that it happens not only when the engine is cold... Even going uphill could jerk the gears. Did lots of researching and everybody says that it is mechatronics unit(about $4000)
I read That people tried to update the software, changing the transmission oil, even tried replacing the sleeve. However the jerking came back...

I am getting this issue. Sometimes it is bad, sometimes it is fine. It's much worse in sport mode.
Usually get a rough up shift going to 2nd or 3rd at low acceleration.

I took it in to the dealer today. I'll see what they say. It's a '08 550, still under warranty.

I have same problem as well too on my 08 550i sport. I will have the dealer look into the mechatronics unit.

I have a 07 550i and it is in the dealer as I type. I had the same problem and they did an update to the transmission and also found that the mechatronics was bad and covered under warranty. Hoping this fixes all the problems. Will keep you posted since I pick it up tomorrow.

+1. 08 550i sport. It seems worse as the temperature gets below 35. I read a post that I can't seem to find that reset the unit. It was something along the lines of holding the gas pedal all the way down for about 30 sec while the ignition was in the 1st position and waiting for a click. I tried it about a month ago and it seemed to help..... or I tricked myself into believing it. Also noticed that switching from regular mode to DS and back to regular mode would make it sluggish.

Should've held out till I found a manual.

I have the same issue. The first 2 dealers found nothing. The 3rd update the software but still bad. Then they replace the transmission for me. Now I am happy.

Just talked to my service advisor. He told me all about the adaptive tranny and that they reset it and didn't find any faults. I figured thats what they would say... I already tried the tranny reset. It smoothed out for a while but came back after a few weeks, especially when the weather got cold. Sounds like some BS.....

Oh well....if it starts again I will bring it back....
