Had these on my last car they handled very well, I would just prefer a summer tire (softer rubber) as I dont really use the car much in the winter.

Im the second owner, car has 44k on the clock, carfax showed the tires were previously replaced before, so I'm thinking there a second or third set in the rear. Conti Sports don't last very long from tirerack's review there not such a great tire at all I cant understand why BMW chose them as OEM tires and not Pilot Sport PS2s???

I wanted these and went to order them, two vendors told me their on nationwide backorder so I called tirerack (they stock thousands of tires) and they said I would be waiting 6-12 weeks if I wanted these. So I ordered the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Positions. $220 more than the Conti DW's but my tires and completely shot and I couldn't wait a possible 3 months.

My orginals are at the end of their life, and have created an annoying humming sound that's driving me insane. I have been researching matching sets for my Style 172's and came accross these three sets:
1)Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
2)Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions
3)Continental Extreme Contact DW

Stock Continental ContiSport 2's aren't rated very well at all online, I can't figure out why BMW even installed them as orginal equipment.

Please let me known your suggestions on what tire to replace my conti's with.
I switched to 17" wheels and put Michelin Pilot A/S - much more comfortable ride and much less chance to bent a wheel, haven't noticed much of handling degradation. In fact car is stopping and accelerating faster with smaller lighter wheels.
I tried Conti DWS too, they seem to be a much worse tire from handling perspective that my Pilots, but cost less.

I replaced the OEM dunlop numbflats with Michelin PS2's. World of difference. I wanted to know how the 'best' tires felt before trying others. My plan is to replace the michelins with Hankooks when the time comes.

Sorry, I didn't really answer your question, but you will be very happy with the PS2's.

I just got the Conti Extreme Contact DWS's for my 545i and they are being put on today... replacing Dunlop Sport 01 Runflats... cant wait to see the difference. I like the idea of still having an Ultra-Performance tire while having all weather capability, especially here in the Northeast!

I bought my car used with the Yokohama S-Drive tires. They ride really nice, I have 12,000 miles on them. They do lack in the handling department. I expect to get more than 25,000 miles on them and I have the sport model with 19" wheels. Impressive.

I went with the Brigestone Potenza RE050A Pole Positions they seem to stack up to the PS2s very very well. The Hankooks fall a little short in comparison but cost $3-400 less. Very good tire for the money, but I wanted something a little better.

That is pretty impressive, most tires in our stock size supposedly dont last more than 20k

I had a 2006 330I with the sport package and the tires lasted 25,000 on the rear. Always wearing the inside edge out first, usually bald. My last set of tires on that car were the Bridgestone RE760's. They look pretty good but I only had 5000 miles on them when I sold the car. Handling was first rate.

As the Yokohama's wear on my car and the rubber ages I would expect the wear rate to increase. The rears always wear 30% faster than the fronts.

I just bought 4 new Hankooks (based upon TireRack reviews) and they're just okay. I really thought they would be comparable to the original ContiSport 2's, but they're not. The handling does not seem as responsive, however they seem quieter and ride smoother (and cheaper). I think the Conti Extreme Contacts are the way to go. - More money but a better tire.
