What have you other 550i M-sport owners used to replace your ContiSport 2's?
My orginals are at the end of their life, and have created an annoying humming sound that's driving me insane. I have been researching matching sets for my Style 172's and came accross these three sets:
1)Michelin Pilot Sport PS2
2)Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions
3)Continental Extreme Contact DW

Stock Continental ContiSport 2's aren't rated very well at all online, I can't figure out why BMW even installed them as orginal equipment.

Please let me known your suggestions on what tire to replace my conti's with.

Hey Turtle - if you do some searching around it seems most members prefer either Hankook ventus v12 or the Conti Extreme Contact DW or DWS. Michelin's are great tires but can be quite pricey. I think for the price you cant go wrong with Conti Extreme Contacts. You get a free "flip" at tirerack i think right now too

Hankook Ventus V12 Evos. Less than half the price of the PS2 with similar performance in comparos. I got mine from tirerack.com

I'd rely first on the Tirerack's tests and then factor in the customer reviews. Personal needs and expectations can vary widely. One Tirerack stat I look for is whether customers would replace with the same tire in the future. And, if you shop there or anywhere on line thru the link in my signature you can earn additional cash rebates.

Remember, it's not how much you make - it's how you spend it ... Good luck re-tiring your BMW!

I've run both the Potenzas (non run-flats) and the PS2s (non run-flats), and while both are fantastic I give the edge to the Michelins as they are quieter, plus the big factor is they weigh a lot less (550i sizing):

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position 28lbs front 29lbs rear (240/40 R18 front) (275/35 R18 rear)
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 24lbs front 25lbs rear

Michelin pilot series are quiet and comfortable. The bridgestone are defintitely better handling than the Michelin and continental. I would go with the one with the higher treadwear.

Take a look at the PS2 A/S - All season. They are cheaper and last much longer than the regular PS2 at a slight loss of handling. Search the board for reviews. I have PS2's now and will probably go to the A/S next time when I will ahve to buy all 4.

Extreme Contact DW FTW! Seems like you like a set of tires to last awhile - still on your OE ones. The Hankook's are OK, but man they wear out FAST! I only got around 7500 from the rears.

I have the DW's on now and am very pleased with them.
