As many here have suggested - the Sport Package is a must on the 550i. Active Steering is up to you.

I drove a 650 Sport with AS today and thought it was excellent. Then I got back in my 550i without AS and thought that the steering boost is exactly right-on. I guess you can't go wrong either way.

About the RFTs ... in part it depends on where you live (please update your location in your Profile). Warm climate with smooth roads, no problem. Cold climate with rough roads - you won't like the runflats in cold weather, and in snow they are dangerous.

Let us know what you get! You will love the 550 - it's a fantastic car.

If you don't switch daily between AS and non-AS, just skip it. Do not skip the sports package though!

Personally, I love my AS and will order it on all future cars, but the standard steering is fine and you will never miss it.

Use the money to get comfort access.

I live in North Georgia...the car I'm ordering will include comfort access, HUD, Nav, Logic 7 stereo with SAT, SP and AS, cold weather package, rear seat airbags, rear and side window shades, M aero kit. Titanium Silver exterior with interior color undecided.

My wife is fully in...and wants us to go to Spartanburg to the driving schools before we pick the car up in Munich! I'm really getting pumped!

My Infiniti G35 Coupe sounds like I'm driving with snow tires and I don't want my 550i to resemble the sound in any way. Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.

I don't think you should worry about the 550i with RFTs being noisy. Within our household, we have both the G35 Coupe and Sedan, plus the 550i with the SP and I can say that the 550i is by far the most isolated/quiet car of the 3.

Ya The E60 is very very quiet interior wise. My Lexus IS 350 is even noisier than the E60 with road noise. That was a shocker to me. The Lexus doesnt even have RFT but on the road and freeway you can hear a lot more road noise comming from the front tires than from what you can hear from the E60.

Dont worry. Get the 550 with AS and Sport.

Thanks a lot for this response. Being a G35 owner I think you can relate to my concerns! After all the helpful responses from this thread, there is no question that I will get SP with AS.

Next Thursday, I will finish negotiations with competing dealers in my area and will order an ED 550i. I am ordering SP with AS but have some reservations, mainly because of some threads with negative comments on the combination in the E60 and Bimmerfest Forums. One alternative would be the stock suspension but I don't think I'd want to buy this car with stock suspension and wheels! Could members comment with your impressions of the combination? Thanks.
I don't think you have anything to worry about. The sport package is a must for sure. I have AS and really like it. It really makes the E60 a joy to manuever at lower speeds and makes the car feel alot lighter than it is. Based on the posts I've read, posters prefer the AS and I reckon 8 out of 10 really dig it. IMHO, technology is key and an AS type steering assistance is the future. Of course there are people who are members of the flat earth society.

Great choice, enjoy.

Great to see Schumi win at Magny Cours.
