Can those of you who drive a 550i or 545i with dedicated snow tires report your winter experiences so far in this area. My streets get plowed quickly and I can borrow my wife's SUV during heavier storms if needed.
But how does the car handle during mild snow/ice on short daily commutes with snow tires?
thanks.

I live in Westchester and have a 545i with snows (Dunlop WinterSport 2). If, like me, you have the sport model, you would be crazy to drive performance tires in the snow. You will have zero traction, so you need snows. If you have a non-sport model with all-seasons, I can't say. But I will say that, with the snows, the 545 is very driveable in snow -- with the possible exception of a standing start on a snowy or icy incline. My driveway is just such an incline and, last year, the 545 with snows was able to make it up the driveway coated few inches of snow, but not without difficulty -- I had to disenage DSC to allow the tires to spin a bit. So, the bottom line is that, with the snows, the 545 does fine in most conditions. Since Westchester is hilly, though, you may have a few problems from standing starts.
FYI - I just bought a 2006 325xi wagon -- mostly to insure I have no problems getting around when it really snows hard.
Hope this helps.
