Well don't think like that! Obviously it won't be anymore no1 E60 (M5 not included). It will be no2. And i for one hardly can wait for the tests between 535d and 540i.

[quote name='realtyman' date='Sep 9 2005, 09:15 PM']Still no LSD on the 550i I would suspect.? Gotta get an M to have a limited slip. ? (The drag strip 'aint everything).

Ok! What exactly is a LSD? It's the same kind of differential that is used on the rear axle to move the power/torque form one wheel to another when a slip is detected?
What are the advantages of an LSD?
And does the E60 come with an LSD?

So with a LSD could a power slide be possible? what about doing donuts? just wondering for thw sake of science!
And one more question: for driving hard isn't best to switch to DTC? I think that DSC comes on so early and strong that DTC is better for driving hard on a track or so.

A good driver would turn both off. DTC would be better than DSC though.

LSD gives you a much more controlled slide (as well as better accelleration). It is very evident in the snow (the only time I wish I had my M3 again).

Marketing speaking >>> 545 is slower than 550 by 2 seconds ??

The TopGear review of the 535d mentions that the car could really use a limited slip differential... during the lap test with the Stig behind the wheel, they point out the inside wheel spinning like crazy on a turn. That is when the need for a LSD is mentioned.

Cool. That means about mid 11-second quarter miles for the 550i. I had heard that it would be darn near as fast as, or maybe faster than, the new Z06. ~(:^)

No disrespect to the 550i BUT 2 seconds is HUGE! A few more HP and some torque 'aint gonna make a 2 second difference. Maybe 0.2 but not 2.0.

yep! 2 seconds is alot! maybe from 0-250km/h
Have u noticed? the lower the 0-100 times the more performance is needed to drop a few 10's of a second.

but even so the difference will be like the difference now between 545i manual and 535d.

Quick Reply: 550i MUCH faster than 545i?
