With my 2008 550, I am now averaging 17-18 driving on Long Island, NY, and 23-24 driving weekly to Albany, NY on the NY Thruway. These numbers are consistant with my experince with my 2005 545. I now have 12,000 miles on the car. Milage was not as good during the first 5,000 miles.

So your 545 is averaging 23-24?

I'm just hitting 1200 miles on my 550i automatic and the MPG is still much lower than I expected it to be. The past 2 weeks I've tried driving it more conservatively, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm getting an average of 11 MPG!!! It goes down to 10 MPG if I put it in DS mode. I expected it to be closer to 15. My driving is 95% city driving with an average speed of 15.5 MPH.

I've searched this forum and have found a few threads about MPGs, but nothing specific to the 550i.

I'd like to hear from some other 550i owners out there. Would be great to hear from some in Los Angeles driving the same kind of roads.

- What avg MPGs are you seeing?
- % city / % highway
- How many miles on your car?
Just hit 3000 miles on odo.
Stats almost identical to yours. 97%city Ave.10mpg
Rarely drive in DS. (old fart)
Drive it to bone dry and have never hit 200 miles on a tank full (>16 gal. per fill)

Must have a M5 by mistake.

Will reprogramming tranny help?

OK, for those of you who don't want to believe that I got 25 mpgs, I checked, and I must admit that I was wrong. I apologize for misleading anyone.

My actual MPGs are HIGHER than 25. In fact, they are over 26!

I have not reset my computer since I got the car. I bought it used, and I have put about 3k miles on it, of which appx. 800 have been hwy. My avg speed is 37 mph.

I have an '07 with about 17,300 miles on the odometer. I get around 17 mpg in combined city/highway (40/60) and about 24 mpg on highway(D mode) and I have a pretty heavy foot. I find if I fill the tank and then just drive city streets, I get around 14 mpg. Even with 95% city driving I think 11 mpg is low. I don't remember getting anything that low even when the car was new. What do you get highway only?

- Now 20 mpg was getting 18 steadily but seems to improved the last 3000 miles. (always checked by gallons pumped and trip odometer on instrument cluster.)
- 95% freeway commute with some stretches bumber to bumper and usually about 60-80 miles at 80mph each day.
- Just turned 53K

I haven't done enough freeway driving to know. I'm usually on the freeway for less than 5 miles. A couple of times I've driven 50 miles on the freeway at a time and it raised the MPG avg from 10 to 14.5... but that's an average and it had been a few weeks since I reset the computer.

It sounds like I should just be patient and it will get better over time.

Just my 2 cents, I have an 04 545i and I average 14mpg in the city, driving conservatively. You have take into account what do you consider city driving? I have a 5 mile hop to work, but its just one stop light after another and the car barely gets to 40mph before I have to brake for the next light. This is probably worst case scenario. Most city driving is stop and go but you would cruise at 30-40mph for several minutes at least this would improve your mpg somewhat. You have to really scrutinize what people call city driving. JP
