All:
Thanks for the early attempts at help. Allow me to post my credentials. This is my 9th BMW- 7th new. 5th 5 series, second e60.
ALL have been with the proper (manual) transmission.
Now to clarify the issue a bit. This has nothing to do with the clutch. I'll be in gear, cruising at, say, 60. Foot nowhere near the clutch pedal, right foot off the gas.
Just touch the gas.... 2 millimeters, really slowly. the car jerks a bit from 'coasting' to 'maintain speed'.
Any other thoughts? My feeling is that it has to do with the transition from 'foot off the gas' to 'foot on the gas' mode in the drive-by-wire software..
Other than that, this car is a BEAST. a BEAST I tells ya!
Richard.

Here's the scenario....
When I'm cruising along at speed, I remove my foot from the throttle. Then, no matter how gently I touch the gas, the car exhibits a slight but noticeable jerk in accelleration. In other words, there's no way for me to reapply my foot to the gas without feeling it.
Even if I'm not trying to accellerate - just to getback to the proper cruising throttle position, there's no way to do it smoothly.
Has anybody else noticed this? Note that my car is only 4 days old and has < 200 miles.
Thanks
Richard.

Hi Richard,
I can confirm your problem - 2006 550iAuto, 10.000Km.
Recently I had car in dealership - had 18 software updates,
however, sensitive throttle remains. Someone mentioned break-in, my
car behaves exactly the same from new - I hope BMW will rectify this soon.
Regards,
Alex

My Ride: I GOT A 2007 TITANIUM GRAY/AUBURN LEATHER 545I 6SPD MANUAL. COLD WEATHER PACKAE, PREMIUM, PREMIUM SOUND LOGIC 7, SPORT.
Guys, i know what the problem is. I had the same problems. Its Adaptaion issue. Notonly the car jerks when you let go off the gas, but therre are also delay problems, and other feelings assosiated with the gas pedal. Tell them to clear your adaptaions, BUT they have to doit the right way. There are two or three menues they have to go to in order to do this properly, and you will see how the problems disapear. Now, if you have a Software 23 version the problems will not come back, but on the earlier versions, the problem will come back after a few weeks.
Let us know if they did it, and how is it now?
GOOD LUCK!!!

My car had complete flush, loaded with latest software.
Initial feedback from dealership was to reset adaptive values, didn't help.

Well, they have to know how to do it correctly. I have one guy reset it, but it did nothing to my car because he did nt do it properly.
Again, there are 2 or even three manues they have to go into to reset it properly. After it is all done, you cannot drive the car for 20 minutes ( it says on their computer screen). You will definitely feel the difference if it is done properly...

What you will need to consider is replacing the clutch delay valve (CDV). It will greatly improve the smoothness of your manual, especially around town. Should be able to find this documented via search on this forum. Cost is about $35 for the part, and an hour of labor. It gets rid of the "grab" when you push in the clutch, especially in the lower gears. I pretty much hated the manual until I made this easy change.
Enjoy your ride!
Enjoy your ride!
Is it possible to change it also on smg ?
Tnx, bye!

Why the hostility ricracing? The gentleman obviously has experience with bimmers and knows of what he speaks. i am sure that your post is neither relevant nor helpful.
He's from Finland. What would he know anyway.

I have an 06 550 auto with 6000 miles on the clock, it has the same problem, especially when engine is still cold

I haven't heard back from the dealer in 10 days, and they haven't returned my calls.
So : I'm headed over to have them look at the adaptations. I'm bringing what documentation I can find on the issue.
We'll see what they do/say/think.
Wish me luck!
