550i fuel economy?

My Ride: 550i M SPORT - 6 SPEED MANUAL
I have a 2008 550i M PACK 6SPEED. Honestly the 550i really burns on how you drive it. You light throttle her she'll burn like a big 6. You smash her stop to stop she'll burn like a heavy 8 like she is. It all depends on your driving habit. I tend to light throttle her 70 percent of the time and the other 30 percent 
if you know what I mean. I get around average 15.5L per 100km or 15.176 MPG. I have 32 000 MILES on her odometer. In the end it comes out to be a 90 percent of a tank of gas in a week to use as a daily driver for me. With the current gas prices here in Quebec Canada that`s a 93 dollar tank of gas from empty to full.

Something to keep in mind, I'm guessing you are probably going to be on the low end of the numbers guys are reporting here if you were only getting 18mpg in a 535i. I'm consistently 10mpg+ over that in my own with a 60/40 hwy/city split.

For me it'd be more about cruising / driving range.
Cost of gasoline aside, having to fill up every 2-3 days of city driving or every 300 miles of highway must be a nuisance. Can't BMW figure out a way to squeeze 3 additional gallons capacity somewhere? That's enough to add 45 to 75+ miles of driving range given the average consumption reported by poster.
My 2001 740 had a 21+ gallon tank that usually enabled me to easily travel 400+ highway miles between gas stops. On a highway trip my 530xi stretches that to nearly 500 miles of easy cruising distance.

About 20 MPG and 320 miles to a tank-- mostly highway in Drive-Sport. And I LOVE my car! One of the posts hit the nail on the head-- MPG on this car depends on your foot. When I hammer it, it guzzles (but it's fun). If I tried to keep it slow, I bet I'd get 25MPG highway (easy). BUY IT!

08 550i. I took a trip up through Michigan and decided to see the difference. On the way up I hammered it and was around 15-17 combined. Way back just kind of cruised along and was 25-27. For a v8, I'm happy. Coming from a 05 Pathfinder with a a big v6 that was getting 15-17 no matter how you drove, it's a respectable improvement.

I think i would take it to be 17 mpg -- Atleast thats what my friend says he gets and is getting tired going to the gas station

Do you really have to ask about a 4.8-liter V-8? Truth is, you can squeeze high 20's out of it, just like you may be able to squeeze up to 20 out of an M5, but who really buys this car to drive like that? or even concerned with mileage? When you get into big V8's and better, mileage moves lower on the list and performance moves higher. Chances are, if you're buying a V8 or better, you're gonna be putting your foot down, so while people here say they got 28mpg going downhill with the wind behind them on a stretch of highway, that's few and far between. Get your eyes ready to see between 10-18 mpg on a regular basis. Luckily I drive twice a week, if I'm lucky otherwise I'd be in a 535 or less.
