Default 550i Controller Reprogramming Nightmare

So I started receiving an intermittent but regular Active Steering malfunction error in my 06 550i about 2 weeks ago. I took it to the local dealer here on LI for repair under my GE extended warranty.

They've had it for 8 calendar days now and it's still not fully repaired. First GE had to dispatch an adjuster which took several days to validate that the part was actually bad and I assume negotiate down the hourly labor rate with the dealer which appears to be the trend these days. Not sure I blame them given the hourly labor rate of $160. The repair is covered though.

It's now going on 3 days (of the 8) that they've been trying to re-program the new Active Steering controller and potentially other controllers which can take many hours according to the dealer. I've had a loaner car for the entire time but am concerned about the maintainability of the vehicle going forward given this experience.

Anyone have any thoughts/guidance or had a similar experience?
