I have an 07 with 33k miles and have never had to add a drop of oil. I don't floor the pedal at every opportunity, but I don't baby baby it either.

I bet using a thicker oil would yield less consumption. Is it really true there is no dipstick on the 550i?

On our 06 530i, we have never had to top off oil between OCI. It could be an engine design thing or just the fact that the 530i is not as much fun to drive as a 550i, hence the foot is not deep into the gas pedal .
Regards.
