As an "around town" car, the 550 can't be beat.

One thing to think about is who owned the M5 if you go pre-owned. Many of them that are on the market so early were "executive" or demo cars. I drove several of them at the M performance school and would never buy one after what those cars go through. Check the registration history carefully and trust few. Many of the owners were talking about single digit gas mileage as well. I think the LCI changes would steer me to 550 anyway as many changes are small but meaningful upgrades. For example, the driver's door pull was moved, probably because the first generation used to dig into the driver's left knee contantly, especually during hard cornering.

550i with sport package . M5 is great but only if you have a primary sedan and a primary suv in the house , it can act as the third car, well imho.

My dealership had an 06 M5 and wouldn't CPO it. They said they didn't need to as it would sell on its own...I wouldn't expect him to come and say they were worried about warranty costs.

Joe
Why would your dealer care about warranty costs? They don't pay for warranty service, they get paid to do warranty service. BMW pays for it.

I don't think the ride on the M5 is objectionable in the least. However, gas mileage and warranty, or lack of could make it a much more expensive car.

Sure they will. My dealership has 2 CPO M5s right now. Honestly, I drove both cars back to back and went with the 550. Thought it rode better, better gas mileage, $400 less a year to insure and the steering was firmer. For my money all of the ///M car's steering is too soft.
Interesting. I was told by both the service advisor and my sales guy at the dealership that BMW will not CPO an M5 even if it's in mint condition.

Pick up a new M3 sedan, a lot more involving car to drive. I have seen many guys on M3post saying they got $1,000 of msrp.

If BMW won't let them CPO it, it could be because of liability concerns.

The local dealer had just received three M3s that were unspoken for at MSRP. Nice cars, but a little small for my needs right now. If I didn't need a little more room, I'd seriously consider it.
