550 sport has black muffler tailpipes, can this coating be removed?

I just realized this tonight when i saw my first 08 on the road, i know Audi did this on their RS range i personally dont like it

is this a painted coating, a slipped on sleeve or what?

Yes you can physically replace the tips. However, I use Zaino's Glass Cleaner http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/mercha...oduct_Code=Z-12 however, you can use it on chrome and it makes the tail pipes clean! Those tips are about $75.00 to $100.00 max at a BMW dealership.
