It is just a steptronic with paddle shifters. It is not an SMG like the M3 or M5.
No offense but there is absolutely no way you ever drove it. You wouldn't write that if you had.

Do the upshifts become more natural?? To me, you have to have your hand(s) "rolled" more around the wheel to execute an upshift than is natural for driving the vehicle. I'd prefer a simple one-finger action to upshift. If the paddles had been placed closer to the rim of the s/w itself that would have solved this problem. Downshifts via thumbs is simple and very natural, but I am not impressed with the upshift action, at this limited stage of trying them out.

Cal, I'm a bit confused about how you're holding the wheel. Upshifts are very easy with one or more fingers -- the entire paddle surface behind the wheel (not just the top of the paddle that sticks up above the steering wheel spokes) is available for pulling...

You can have your hands in a natural (and comfortable) driving position and shift up or down with no problem whatsoever.

Cal, Rudy is correct (see above). I also thought the downshift paddle was the only way to downshift/upshift. I didn't realize the upshift was behind the steering wheel...I guess I was too excited to drive and forgot to read the manual.

I thought the exact same thing when I test drove it. Never even realized that there was an upshift

All I can say is, "Duh!" Somehow I got tricked into thinking "paddle" --> "paddle surface" --> made for the thumb/finger --> upshift via the paddle surface back. Didn't think about its appendage on into the steering wheel. I tried it on the way home today, Works very nicely. Thanks for pointing out the subtly obvious!

I'm not finding the paddles as intuitive as manually shifting with the console shifter , I 've been caught a few times running the revs up out of the whole due to manually downshifting and forgetting either put it back in D or manually shift( I gotta turn the stereo down ). I love the Sport setting when driving in D, it holds the shift points much higher and longer....... this is a much nicer tranny than my 07 had .

I think I have the same gearbox on my diesel....

And I have not find the use of the paddles, the SAT is good, much better then the steptronic in my old car. But as said, in sport mode, the car does a much better job then me shifting?

Or is it because I've not been on a track, only highway drivning?
