I would consider Park Distance Control. Much easier to watch the Idrive screen than to try and turn to view the rear.
PDC is standard on 550.

Must have options for me are:
Sport
Navi
L7
CWP (northern regions only)

Desirable:
HUD
AS (unless you drive very hard)
CA
Folding seats

Desirable but very expensive:
Ventilated seats

Useless:
Night vision
Intelligent cruise

If I were over 70, I would go with the M5. End your driving experience with a bang!
You saying if you are over 70 the car you buy is your last one?

I think if you were 70 you would think you have many more cars to buy.

Im only 50 and Id hate to think i only have 25 years left.

Or do you mean if you are over 70 you will smash up the car pretty quick.?

Niether. This guy learned to SCUBA dive in his 60's and we take him on our lobster trips. Of course he owns the boat.

He turns a car every 3 years and has been driving Audi's since the 80's and is finally thinking to come away from the dark side. He gets in his car, turns the key and goes. I mentioned his age as I was not sure about recommending sport and active - although I would never buy an E60 without it.

Based on this guys family genetics, I would guess he has another 5 cars in him.

All good input and I think I will suggest the same type of car I would buy, except for the transmission.

Oh yeah - M5 would be great, but although he can afford it, he is still too practical.

Load it with everything.. what is there to think about? If he had the new A8 it would be a step down to the 5-series regardless of engine and output. whats wrong with the 750i ?

Heck I almost ran over a cat the other night. But my night vision spotted it and the Active Cruise slowed me down in the nick of time.

the active cruise in not useless to us older drivers[58], especially those of us who's throttle leg has nerve damage. the nite vision seams to be able to look thru lite fog [school is still out on heavy fog]. the hud is really personel. my wife who normally dislike the tecky stuff really likes the hud. the sport package is a real must and doesnt effect the ride as in the 3 series. heated seat are a must, really relaxes the tired bones on long drive. had mine on for about 2500 miles of a 5000 trip. nav is ok but the garmin street pilot is far better.

Yep, 70+ is getting up there. Not too many more years left. After 80, your kids will pull your license and you'll find your car being sold at auction by your son in-law. Hahaha!
