Just test drove a 07 550 with manual transmission. I currently have a 06 525 with auto, and a 2000 Miata manual.

It's very easy to shift gears. However,

1. It feels a very heavy car overall.
2. It has power but I need to step on it. In other words, it's not as responsive as I expected and is not like I just need to slighly press the gas. Or I say its not as "eager to go" as I expected.

I expected much more (from performance perspective) from this car and I am disappointed.

Looks like I have to stick with I6 engines.

Perhaps you could have tried the 25 second trick...

On a side note, I would think the V8 engine would be a bit heavier there-by also requiring little bit heavier of a foot....

The V8 is several hundred pounds heavier than the I6 but the torque is awesome. The computer requires you press the gas significantly to make the car move, some people address that with the Sprint Booster which modifies the throttle and makes the car launch faster.

My 05 545i flies, pulls very hard when you floor it. I got used to it after moving from M3 to the 545.

Stock the 550i is supposed to run low 5's 0-60 which isn't slow.

There is a bit of a delay reaction. However, Sprint Booster will fix it

Motor Trend tested the 2008 550i with MT and got 0-60 time in 4.8s, 1/4 mile in 13.3s. I've also seen a lot of e60 members posted similar time.

This is the same time as the Benz (E550, AT).

+1 I too came over to a 545i from an M3 and I was happily surprised by the performance of a "big" 5 series! I also agree that the 25 second transmission reset trick, coupled with a Sprint Booster would wipe that frown off of your face and replace it with a grin that would be hard to remove!!

Lets just say that the Mustang GT i met last night was also a little disapointed with my 545's performance

No sprint booster required.

And i was carrying two sets of floor mats!
