OH Well... it looks like the 550i will start production in 9/2005.

Will the 545i have a small but loyal following?

I wonder how many 545i's will be produced, total.

Other than being "top dog" and having that badge on the back of your car I don't really see from a performance or drivability perspective what the big deal is. Don't get me wrong...as I've said before?given the choice...give me the 550! But it's not something I'm loosing sleep over. It seems to me that if anything it will be more ego driven vs. performance driven and............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .......................that?s why I want one

Yeah, 550 will be a notch higher in performance. It will be noticeable if you drive both side-by-side. The extra 35 HP with no significant weight added will translate into near-E39 M5 levels of performance. You'll be right there with the E46 M3's, probably pull them on the highway. It will be an awesome car!

It will have a loyal following of at least one, right here. I'm not out to chase the latest, greatest. I love my car! If I was concerned about having the best and biggest, I would have leased and gotten a new car in three years, not written a check for my 545.

IMHO, 35HP will not give near E39 M5 performance. As much as I love my E60, my E39 M5 was/is/felt alot faster....

I can't wait for the E60 M5, I just need to supress my M6 feelings... in a moment of weekness I might take one

Its a little annoying since I just ordered mine. But I figure if I cancel and order the 550, there will just be something else I want. I will just chip mine, and it will compete.

As far as resale, I doubt it will have much effect. The 03' 540 is still up there.

I'll be happy for future 550i owners.

I will have mutual respect with a 540i and a 550i and will not drag race either one of them at a traffic light.

Unless they just c*ckblocked me at the bar or nightclub!
