FWIW, I am a 2006 manual 330i owner. I raced my neighbor in his 2004 STEP 545i. It was dead even from 0-80. After 80 he pulled away. The 335i would win fairly easily against a STEP 545i especially going from 0 to 60.

It is really pretty simple: power/weight

FWIW, there are a few threads in other forums about 335i cars staying even with M3s. Man are those M3 owners pissed...

That sounds about right. The V8 shines as the speed increases into triple digits.

Remember when I ran that red 330 with the SLK. I took him immediately off the line. Granted the 330 was a step, but the SLK is admittedly slow compared to a 545.

Can you try and do a 60 mph rolling launch against the 335? Start in second gear and take it up to whatever you guys decide.

Ya... I agree... the 545 was slower to respond... either the driver was slow or the tranny was slow to lock up.

I'm sorry I dont buy that race... I'm not saying what you said isnt true but something went wrong with that race... a 545 step should have put more distance on a 330. Either the 545 "learned" to drive slow... meaning it was driven like a granny before the race... so the tranny learned to be slow... or the 545 driver had the car in D mode and DSC on. the 545 is faster than the 330 from a stand still and roll.

No wonder they are pissed...some 535d even stay with them from roll ons and some tweaked chu chu trains "smoke" the e46 m3s from 80-120 etc...
