I just purchased a 2005 545i with automatic transmission.

When I'm driving around 35-40mph I'm constantly feeling a little skip or slip in the transmission.

The previous owner said he took it to the bmw dealership and they said it was normal and it was part of the gearing.

The service records shows they did a thorough check so the issue was documented and given a clear bill of health.

Any fellow 545i owners notice this as well?

Mine did the same thing. It turned out to be a faulty transmission valve body. BMW calls it "mechatronix". Fairly common problem in the 545s. If you can't get warranty to cover it, it will run you about 6k to fix.

Just got done talking to SA.

They said if there are no fault codes (which there aren't) they won't cover it.

If they take it for a test drive and physically feel the slip/jerk, they will submit to BMW, but BMW will probably not cover it.

So I will be out $95 for the diagnosis fee and nothing will be fixed. FML

Is it leaking it at all? It will be a small amount, but I never noticed it until I went on vacation and had it parked for a few days. It left only a few drops in my garage, I also noticed some oil saturation on the fairings under the car, so I would take a look under there too. I had my mechatronics sleeve replaced under CPO.

I haven't noticed any leaks, but I will take a closer look. I made an appointment with the dealership tomorrow and will update with the findings...

Before you take the car back to BMW, try the transmission reset, it could very easily remedy this!!

I've experienced the same "skip" while driving around 35-40mph. It's hard to ingore te issue. I guess I'll have to take the car in for a check-up.
