This morning my car would not start! The starter engaged but nothing happened. Let the starter run for 15 sec and switched it off. Waited for a few seconds and tried again - normal start!
Have noticed that the car sometimes misfires slightly at the first start of the day ( cold ). This has been obvious the last month.
Will take it to the dealer on monday for SW upgrade, first oilservice, get the phone to work again after last SW upgrade, new light support bracket plus some more. Will have them look in to this problem then.
Can they read any fault codes from this start problem?
Anyone else had experienced this?

No, never had this experience. Also never my old V8 4.0 Litres, 286 HPs within 9 years ownership.
8 Cylinders should be enough to start some of them at the first try anyway
.
I would assume a typical "Bill Gates" problem. Should have been recorded then.

Actually I had this problem too, Sometime when my 545 starts it sounds un-tuned. One time it acted started and then stalled on me... Once its running its runs great, but that initaial start seems crappy. The dealer told me it will do that forst 5000kms, and if it continues bring it in, but he said alot of time bad intial starts will go away on tehre own. So well see I guess, let me know how your problem turns out

My E39 540 used to do that. It would either stall at times or not fire, and just keep cranking. Just like you describe, only sometimes, then fires right up the next time.
I always seemed like a software thing, that is, not properly determining that the car was in a cold-start and needed fuel, or something like that. Never did get a solution from the dealer.
Hasn't happened to my E60 yet.
