I have had the clutch on my 04 545i smg replaced. After i got it back from the shop. It would make this rough scratching shuttering sound every time it went from 1st to 2nd gear and from 3rd down to 2nd gear. The shop owner said that this sound was because i needed to break in the clutch so all i needed to do was drive it more. The sound never went away and on the freeway one when i punched it the transmission went into fail safe mode and stayed in 2nd gear (this was the first time it happened) i turned the car off and turned it back on and everything was fine but still made the scratching sound. this was the first time it happened. the 2nd time it happened i turned the car off and it would not turn back on because it stayed in 2nd gear so i disconnected the battery and was able to get it turned on except it would not go into gear now. I took it to the dealer and they said because they couldn't get any signal to the transmission that it was the gearbox that needed to be replaced. I don't think it is the gearbox i feel like the shop i took it to did not install the clutch properly and when i asked them if they replaced the flywheel they said no. What do you guys think has any one had this issue with an smg?

STOP DRIVING THE CAR!!!! You are causing severe damage to the gears!!! They f'd up on the clutch repair. The grinding noise you hear is the clutch not engaging the gears properly. It's not lining up basically. There is no "break-in" period or noise for new clutches other than it will feel much grippier when changing gears.
