I was in a decked out 545i today and its screen was larger than the 530 and 525i I sat in. What is the difference in screens? This 545i also Had a DVD player below the CD player all OEM. Any Clues?

Peace

If you're in the US, then it says "DVD" next to the slot. But it's just the NAV DVD. You cant play a movie DVD in there if youre in the US.

I believe the cars without NAV have the smaller iDrive screen. I HIGHLY recommend the NAV.

You should update your profile with your location.

To complete the answers. No their is no screen difference between a 525/530 and the 545. The screen difference comes with the NAV option.

I've asked 3 dealers in the Netherlands if I could play DVD in my car (just like in an E class) if I would take the big screen DVD Nav option. They all told me this was not possible. One of the salesreps told me it was possible to set the software different but they weren't allowed to do it by bmw.

Has anybody found out if this is truely possible??

Playing movie-DVD's WILL be possible soon.
The production manager for the e60 told me that there will be a software update in September for it. The same update will make it possible to play MP3's.
This - offcourse - is for Germany where I live, I can't comment on other countrys.

Please keep us informed. I will drive to Germany to get the update if it is only available in your country!!

Although I believe the dutch dealers will probably get it too if it is available for you.

Most likely the DVD playback and MP3 support will become available around September and should be part of the long awaited V12 software update. It might be possible that this version will be available sooner because my dealer told me yesterday that they expect a new software version in a couple of weeks, I dunno if this will be V12 or not. In addition I think that the DVD playback function will be available in most countries, except maybe in the US due to safety reasons.

530E60NL - No prob, but don't get too excited! Are you referring to DVD's filled with music or video DVD's containing both video & music? Just double checking because when I read your post I would suspect that it would be the first and as far as I know this hasn't been confirmed whether this will work.

Just a little bit OT - You said that your father lives in Gent, well I live in Wilrijk which is really close to Antwerp so I guess that's a little bit out of the direction of Gent. In addition does your father have the Belgian nationality, if so, then it might not be a bad idea to consider buying your car in Belgium since we do not have the additional 40% luxury tax.
