Hi all I have a 2004 545i auto that I have owned for 6 years now.
Recently it developed the "whine and squeal" on the serpentine belt due to the top radiator hose starting to sweat on the crimped clamps.
I replaced the top hose, belt and tensioner. Obviously there was fluid loss when the pipe was removed.
The level was topped up with BMW antifreeze.
I have turned the heater on full heat, fan on low speed and tried bleeding the system by leaving the cap off and only closing the expansion tank top once the thermostat opened and started to return.
I now have a rough sound that sounds like a bearing type noise (a bit of hissing and rumbling) - sounds like it's in the centre of the top end of the motor.
When the belt was off I had a go at all pulleys and all felt fine.
Strange thing is, the noise is there once the car sits for a few minutes regardless of operating temperature, and it only lasts about 1.5/2 minutes then goes quiet.
It would almost seem as though the water pump is perhaps cavitating.
I was told by my dealer agent that looks after it that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced, as it was leaking but that is located in quite a far removed place from where the noise seems to be coming from.
Anyone else had this type of issue??
