Folks, some of this is probably repeated earlier in our pedal response section but I am currently unhappy with the pedal feel of my 545iA. The pedal still feels quite heavy, although its response from a dead start has improved since they replaced it.

Also, I feel that the revs are quite high even in standard "D" mode before it shifts. It appears to stick in revs before shifting gears for what appears to be a much longer time than normal. The car's acceleration is simply superb when you floor it (or push the pedal hard) but frankly when I've paid well over $60K (US) for this car, I'm not happy that my Toyota Camry feels more natural in stop and go traffic.

Have others had similar concerns? Any suggestions on what to do besides raise hell with the dealership, which I'm going to do this week!

What kind of transmission -- SMG, Steptronic, Auto?
Ask the dealer to get a person to drive while you are the passenger. See if there is a difference either in the way it shifts or the way the car is driven.

I just finished 3 days with an X3 2.5 loaner car whilst my 545i/Step was having I-drive reconstructive surgery. The shifting in the X3 was far smoother and more "natural" than my 5er. It reminded me of my old 330i which had impeccable shifting.

The 545 in city traffic leaves a lot to be desired. I feel like I'm pushing a much heavier car and seem to over accelerate once the beast gets rolling. It's sluggish then jumpy and very quirky.

Maybe I need a BMW V8 training class or something....but then again...why should I feel this way?

I had this problem before the software update. Now it is much lighter and nimbler (?) from dead start.

What is the current version of your software? I was under the impression I had the latest version since my car is so new (built Aug., Sept. delivery).

As for the higher revs, even in D (vs. DS), I have noticed this a bit, though I think it is the adaptive transmission working its magic. If I am driving conservatively, the tranny shifts at lower RPMs, but if I'm jumping off quickly from red lights or stop signs, it allows the engine to rev higher before shifting. Not as pronounced as in Sport mode, but it is definitely there.

Yes, I have noticed exactly the same thing - very disconcerting when driving "normally" - I would really like to hear more about this software fix, Rizbel
