Hi Andy, Sounds like we had the same problem. They replaced my engine too this past winter. The new engine is solid so far. Now there is a noise from the rear-end around 2,450 to 2, 600 RPM. Now thye have to go back to BMW to get permission to replace it. Take care,

John

Small update all. Have my car back in the meantime...new engine - no tapping sounds, feels solid.
Also have mp3 activated now ( 09/2004 prod. ) and software version 24.x. ( as per chief mechanic ).
Also got an extended warranty on my car, plus 2 years...not bad. BMW came through for me. Bravo.

Next will probably be ipod interface adapter in August.

I had the same problem but the increased emmissions message kept popping up. My dealership tried to replace the fuel injectors and other parts with no luck. They escalated the issue to BMWNA and they decided to replace the engine.

How did you get the extended new car warranty? Is it because its a new engine?

I should be able to have my car back this sat. Wish me luck! I cant wait to drive on a brand new engine!.

BTW, I have a 04 530i with 45,000 miles.

Thanks!
